April 2026
Dear theatre friends,
The Spring season is well underway as evidenced by Brits Off Broadway , an annual festival at 59e59. The Guardian review of “Trouble, Struggle, Bubble and Squeak” , the first play in the program, highlights the play’s eccentric charm.
Look ahead to find other highlights, like “Clara: Sex, Love and Classical Music” and “Cable Street”– all sound appealing.
Transferring after last year’s wonderful Irondale production, “Well, I’ll Let You Go” will be at Studio Seaview later this month. I saw it last year and found it profoundly sad and utterly unforgettable.
After receiving consistent rave reviews for multiple U.K. runs, you can see “Kenrex” at Lucille Lortel. It was sold out at every performance– so get your tickets early. It’s on until June 27th.
At Minetta Lane Theatre , Audible has teamed up with Sonia Friedman and Hugh Jackman’s company, Together, to produce dramatic work. Right now, you can see “Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes” with Jackman and Ella Beatty– a thrilling two hander.
Look ahead for Tom Noonan’s “What Happened Was” this month. Next month, three new monologues by Ella Hickson (my Award winner for “Eight”), entitled “New Born”.
“Off the Record: Acts of Restorative Justice” will have a short run at Here Arts Center. Writer, James Scruggs, along with criminal justice advocate, Thomas Giovanni, want to focus our attention on the U.S. criminal justice system. His previous work, “3/Fifths” was an ambitious, unusual attempt to stress racism. This, too, promises to be powerful.
Lastly, in a less serious vein, please go to the Sheen Center for Tom Dudzick’s “Miracle on South Division Street’ . I saw it last year at its Penguin Rep Theatre premiere– it is totally delightful! Again ,it will be directed by Joe Brancato.
That’s it for now– more to come next month!
Thanks for reading,
Carol
